Tom McHenry is a Detective in the Los Angeles Police Department. Tom was also the former partner and best friend of Matt Parkman, which also ended when Tom began an affair with Matt's wife, Janice, which led to the Matt's divorce.

When Matt goes missing, Janice calls the station and asks that Detective McHenry call her back.
Nichts zu verbergen
At the precinct, Detective McHenry attempts to comfort Matt when he seems upset, and congratulates him for his success working with the FBI. Tom tells Matt that Audrey has arranged for Matt to take the detective exam as a series of oral interviews rather than as a written test, in order to accommodate Matt's dyslexia. Matt then hears Tom's thoughts, with Tom truely considering Matt "a loser" and laughs that he is "nailing" his "fine" wife. Unable to stop himself, Matt punches Tom in the face before being restrained by the other officers present, their friendship over.
As a result of punching a, technically, superior officer, Matt was suspended from the force without pay for a month.

At the precinct, Matt punches Tom, and then feels badly about it.
Sechs Monate zuvor
Tom, still a beat cop, pulls his squad car next to Matt's. They discuss the detective exam they are both due to take in an hour—Matt's second attempt at the exam. He also scorns Matt for eating doughnuts, which Matt was doing at Eden's suggestion.
